As we enter into this new and exciting decade, people are already asking, "what's the next big thing in skin care?" First there was the Retinol rush, then Vitamin C took center stage in products, and most recently: Hyaluronic Acid is popping up even in drugstore products. Last year brought a new era of "clean beauty." So, what is next? Some early predictions include gender neutral products, DNA focused products, and very customized skin care. Imagine daily PRP, made from your own PRP. Well, that's already a thing. But my biggest prediction is biome-focused and all-natural products (that actually work)!
The skin microbiome make up all of the organisms that live on your skin including bacteria, viruses, and fungi. "Bacteria" is the buzz word in skincare at the moment with products that promise to replenish your skin's naturally produced bacteria rather than scrubbing it away with harsh chemicals. With this new trend of getting back to basics comes a focus on natural skincare. Naturally derived products are no longer just a movement, it is becoming a norm in the beauty industry. Unfortunately, many companies are not transparent about the ingredients in their products. In fact, skin care and beauty industries are not regulated by the FDA and therefore are not required by law to list all of the ingredients in their skincare. In 2003, the European Union banned chemicals that cause cancer and birth defects in skincare products. The United States has not. Using words such as "natural" or "organic" lulls the consumer into a false sense of security. These big companies define "natural" beauty according to their own agenda.
Here at Center in Union Square, New York, we hold ourselves to a higher standard. We believe in being truly transparent about skin care so that the consumer can make educated decisions and only use ingredients that are truly beneficial and will never harm their health. Ask us questions and know what you're putting on your skin! We want this new trend towards natural beauty to be all about transparency.
In efforts to bring our patients nature-sourced skin care here at Center, we spent the last two years developing an exclusive, 100% natural, skin care line with only the highest quality ingredients sourced from the all corners of the globe. WILDER Oils have no preservatives, no additives, no fillers, no texturizers, no parabens, no sulfates... we literally know every single drop of ingredients in the bottle, where it came from, what the active form is, and why it is in there. After two years of testing it with hundreds of our patients, we now offer Treatment Oil (to curb bruising and swelling after injections), Cleansing Oil for your nightly wash, Acne Spot Treatment Oil for stubborn blemishes, Face Oil for everyday nourishment, Hydrosols for calming and toning, and roll on Eye Oil to smooth and rejuvenate the delicate eye area.
You might wonder why a Dermatology practice that treats patients with Botox and Fillers is crafting all natural skincare. If you've been to Center, you know we are committed to our patients' needs from head to toe. We are here to help you make the right choices for your skin: whether that be natural products, medical grade products, or a mixture of both. The one thing that remains the same whether products are natural or chemically derived - if we carry it, it is not harmful to your skin or your health. There is a lot of misinformation in terms of cosmetic formulas and the labels don't always tell the whole story. Fortunately, you don't have to be in the dark about products. Reach out to schedule a skin care consultation with our team in Union Square, NYC, and let us help educate you towards the best skin of your life.
