Silhouette Instalift™ Q & A
Is Silhouette InstaLift™ FDA cleared?
The product earned FDA-clearance in April 2015.
What Are The Components Of Silhouette InstaLift™?
InstaLift sutures are made from Poly (glycolide/L-lactide) (PLGA), a polymer that is frequently used in medical devices and is well tolerated by the body. The fully resorbable sutures have bi-directional cones. The sutures lift, while the bi-directional cones hold the suture and cheek sub-dermis in an elevated position.
Who Is A Good Candidate?
Silhouette InstaLift™ is the ideal minimally-invasive solution for many women and men who are interested in refreshing their appearance without major surgery, injections or lasers. It offers a new and unique technology to lift sagging facial skin. Suitable candidates have good skin quality, with moderate sagging of the skin in the mid-face. The skin should not be too thick/heavy or too thin.
How can Silhouette InstaLift™ Improve Facial Appearance?
Sagging facial skin is one of the major contributors to an aged and tired appearance. The treatment is a minimally-invasive procedure that redefines the contours of the mid-face by lifting the deeper layers of the skin for a more youthful look.
Which Areas Can Be Treated?
Cheek and mid-face area: InstaLift is indicated for use in mid-face suspension surgery to temporarily fixate the cheek sub dermis in an elevated position.
What Must Be Done Before Treatment?
No special preparation is required prior to treatment. However, we recommend that you discuss your expectations and ask any questions you have before starting treatment. Inform us of any treatment you have already received and any medicines you are currently taking.
Is General Anesthesia Required?
No. Dr.Karcher will only use a local anesthetic to numb the area before inserting the sutures.
How Is Silhouette InstaLift™ Different From Thread Lifts?
It is an entirely new technology and procedure. Rather than just repositioning the skin, the Instalift treatment focuses on the underlying layers of the skin, because that is what really causes sagging. Another important advance is that the sutures are not permanent. They are absorbed by the body over time. As they are absorbed they stimulate collagen renewal, which helps achieve a natural younger look.
Are There Any Contraindications To Silhouette InstaLift™ Treatment?
Patients with known allergy or foreign-body sensitivities to plastic biomaterial. Situations where internal fixation is otherwise contraindicated (e.g. infection). Patients appearing to have very soft tissue of the face in which the implant may be visible or palpable.
Is Treatment Painful?
No, the treatment is performed under local anaesthetic, avoiding pain during insertion of the suture.

- (Cold packs should be wrapped to avoid direct contact with skin and insertion point)
- Acetominophen may be taken in case of pain
- Make-up may be gently applied after a minimum of 24 hours.
